Indian flavor @ Wornambool
By Ramesh Dave
The Christmas Day of 2013 shall remain a memorable event for not only NRISA members but for also their family & friends, as it was the most wonderful blend of picnickers, right from teenagers to seniors. Thanks to the Victorian Government’s gesture of free public transport on 25 December 2013, the record number of persons joined the group of Indian picnickers at Southern Cross Railway Station for the V-Line train to Wornambool. The entire compartment of the train was jam packed with Victorians of Indian origin. Once the train started exchanges of delicious Indian dishes was followed by ‘Antakshari’ and old & new melodious Hindi film songs. The spirit of togetherness & inclusiveness could be felt, as the entire lot was a single family for the day.
The bright sunny day added to the enthusiasm of picnickers, who went to the beach and took rest on the lush green play ground made for children. The entire day was spent there under the shadowed trees in small groups by exchanging various types of delicious Indian food right from Aaloo Gobhi ke Paarathey, Namkeen, Laddoos, Khaman Ghokla, and Jhal Mudi (Bengali version of Bhelpuri)
The return journey was also enjoyed by all picnickers by singing songs and chit-chatting. Mrs. Neelam and Mr. Bill Gupta (treasurer, NRISA) nicely organized the ‘train trip’ & the greetings of Drs. Santosh Kumar & Nalin Sharda (President & Secretary, NRISA) were conveyed to the picknickers, who expressed their sincere thanks to the NRISA office bearers for the trip.
