Dr. Santosh Kumar (NRISA president) bestowed top award by ASOR- Australian Society for Operations Research

Operations Research (OR) is a discipline associated with the World War II. Around the 1950’s, the field of OR moved on from the Defence to Government, Commerce and Industry. Slowly it was also accepted as a tertiary education discipline. In the beginning, the field of OR had a humble start in a couple of US and UK universities and slowly it became more and more accepted as a discipline in other universities around the world. Santosh Kumar was introduced to the field of OR in 60’s in the Department of Defence in India. After obtaining a PhD degree in OR from Delhi University, India, he was appointed in 1970 at the RMIT, Melbourne, where he commenced OR work in Australia as an educationist, researcher and as a founder member of the Australian Society for Operations Research (ASOR), which was established in 1972. Based on his contributions to OR and to ASOR, on 29 September 2009, he was awarded ‘Ren Potts’ award of the ASOR in a special ceremony held at Holiday Inn, Gold Coast. He is the sixth recipient for the award since its inception approximately 20 years back and it is the highest award given by the ASOR.
